Does Anyone Really Understand Your Pain?
When no one else understands your pain, God does. Receive His comfort—and become a source of comfort for others.
Aren’t you glad when you’re going through a tough time to have someone around who gets you, who listens and sits with you, who is able to comfort you? Maybe you were diagnosed with cancer; you immediately felt terrified but your spouse or a close friend held your hand and said, “I’m here with you!”
Maybe you lost your job and you couldn’t pay your bills or put food on the table and your friends understood and every couple of days there would be bags of food left on your front porch.
Maybe you lost your spouse, or your child; you felt unhinged, life was surreal, you had no energy to handle all the details and preparations thrust upon you. But a pastor or close friend came alongside you and said, “Let me handle this for you.”
But perhaps that’s where you are today. You’re going through tough times, but no one has called. No one has stopped by. The loneliness feels almost as heavy as the burden itself. If so, don’t suffer in silence. Reach out to a trusted pastor, friend, or even your employer if appropriate. Most importantly, bring your pain to God. He isn’t distant from your struggles—He invites you to bring them to Him.
The Apostle Paul reminds us where true comfort begins: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV).
God the Father is able to comfort us better than anyone or anything! He knows the cost of giving His Son for those He loves. He knows what it’s like to be rejected by the people He loves. He knows what it’s like to be ignored, even when He alone has the answers and the power to help.
God is standing by you, always ready to comfort you in ALL your setbacks, health problems, grief, loneliness, pain, or despair!
Today, God stands ready to comfort you. His comfort restores hope, steadies weary hearts, and reminds us that we are never abandoned. Then, having received His comfort, He sends us to become that same encouragement for someone else. The comfort you receive today may become the hope another person desperately needs tomorrow.
