And lead us not into temptation.” Luke 11:4 ESV

Have you ever been convinced you knew where you were going but got absolutely lost? We can be so sure of ourselves, it’s embarrassing—or worse—when we lose our way, especially when we could have easily asked for directions! Jesus taught us to pray daily for God’s direction, “Lead us,”…”Lord, lead me.” Specifically, we are to ask for direction away from those temptations that continually deplete our will to obey God, and which destroy our sense of security with God, of dignity, of fulfillment, of joy. Praying for direction is also praying for protection from temptation. When you repeatedly give in to temptation, you soon become addicted to it. You begin to rationalize your behavior and to re-interpret the temptation as “just part of life,” instead of a sin that is destroying your quality of life, your relationship with God, and very likely destroying your relationships with others. Prayer isn’t simply reciting words; it’s actively engaging in a conversation with the Living God. If you want God to speak to you, read his Word, the Bible; ask for God to reveal himself to you, to open your ears. Listen for his directions. From the minute you awake, to the moment you retire at night, pray expecting God to answer, “And lead us not into temptation.” Luke 11:4 ESV

. . . “Jesus gave a blueprint for prayer that results in an abundant life . . . pray daily for God’s direction, listen for his answers by reading his Word, the Bible.”
