“Give us each day our daily bread.” Luke 11:3 ESV
Most Americans still value being self-sufficient, independent. While it’s true that initiative, inventiveness and a lot of elbow grease is a biblical virtue, we must also recognize that we are not self-sufficient in all things. In fact, from the basics, like air to breath, health to enjoy, water to drink, to the intangible reward for hard work and those “lucky breaks,” none of these originate with us. Just as birds aren’t farmers but are usually well-fed, and as brilliant flowers of all sizes adorn the grassland and forest floor but no one plants them, people are often cared for in ways beyond their expectation. How? Your heavenly Father knows that you have these needs and has provided for you. He wants you to ask, to recognize that He supplies ALL your needs (not necessarily all your wants!). When you and I learn a proper dependence upon God each and every day, our lives are much less stressful. We have a chance to exercise joyful confidence and constructive activity! You’re not praying out of weakness or to overcome God’s reluctance to provide for you, you’re praying to access your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. God encourages you to pray, “Give us each day our daily bread.” Luke 11:3 ESV
. . . “Jesus gave a blueprint for prayer that results in an abundant life . . . recognize God supplies all your needs.”
