“And he said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father…’” Luke 11:2 ESV
The New Covenant with God, through Jesus Christ, is radical; God is not distant, he is not the unapproachable tyrant king, he is now our personal father. Prayer is now a conversation between a loving, caring dad and his child—you! Yet, somehow, many Christians have gotten caught up in the idea that prayer is like a magic incantation: it will only work if you recite the proper words in the proper order in the proper voice. The reality is different: God is an engaged listener, he’s not listening for words, he’s listening for honesty; speak the truth about your condition, your concerns, your needs, your heart. God is listening for your recognition that he—not you—beneficially changes the course of your world, that he is the originator of all you need. Today, when you pray, talk to God personally, quiet your heart to pray to God honestly, openly, not trying to hide anything from your eternal Father, who in turn will bless you with his presence, his instruction, his provision. “And he said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father…’” Luke 11:2 ESV
. . . “Jesus gave a blueprint for prayer that results in an abundant life . . . it’s a conversation with your Father that requires honesty.”
