“Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.”   Galatians 4:8 ESV

What does the most vociferous atheist who screams out, “There is no God!” have in common with the other 80% plus of Americans who say they believe in God? Addictions. An addiction is anything that I’ve got to have repeatedly and will do almost anything for to satisfy the craving. An addiction is an enslavement. An addiction is worship gone wrong The difference between an addiction and true worship of God is that God wants us to voluntarily know him, to freely enjoy a relationship with him, with the freedom to leave him, if you choose. Yet how can you leave God once you’ve experienced the power and sweetness of his presence? Almighty God, by his very character, transforms our environment, transforms our desires, makes alive something within us we didn’t know existed until he came—our spirit. Yes, there’s still a mighty struggle between the spirit and the flesh, but when you know God, you have hope, a confidence that the conflict is temporary. You can confidently say, “I’m no longer a slave to debilitating addictions because I know the power of the true God is far greater than the power I attach to anything that is not him!” Friend, are you struggling to be transformed today, to be free of a foolish addiction? Don’t concentrate on the addiction—that is worship gone wrong; instead, concentrate on God, worship him repeatedly in your spirit and in your actions. “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.” Galatians 4:8 ESV

. . . “Don’t concentrate on the addiction—that is worship gone wrong; instead, concentrate on God.”
