“Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.” Luke 14:12-14 NLT

Recently, I met Pastor Tim ministering in a small Native Alaskan village. He wasn’t there with his team from Louisiana because it would add to his Balance Sheet; he was there to serve those who had needs he could help with. This pastor challenges me because he makes a habit of treating strangers with dignity. In fact, he regularly holds church services, and serves Communion, out in the streets for people who live under the bridges and don’t feel welcome in churches. Consider this: How often do you do things for others who are capable of doing for themselves? Jesus taught his disciples to reach out to those who cannot repay. Today, look for an opportunity to elevate the dignity of a person in need, as if he or she is Jesus before you. It takes courage, compassion, and a commitment to just do it! “Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.” Luke 14:12-14 NLT

. . . “Today, look for an opportunity to elevate the dignity of someone in need.”
